Cherry Bread with Cherry Glaze Recipe Tutorial

making cherry bread

The Cherry Bread Ingredients

  • Fresh cherries or 20 oz jar of cherries, drained and chopped. Reserve the liquid for the glaze.
  • Sugar.
  • Oil.
  • Milk.
  • Vanilla extract.
  • Egg.
  • Flour.
  • Baking powder.
  • Salt.

The Cherry Glaze Ingredients

  • Powdered sugar.
  • The reserved cherry juice.
  • Melted butter.

For the Bread Batter: Mix the wet cherry bread ingredients well. Add in the dry ingredients and mix until a smooth consistency. Pit 40 fresh cherries and wash and chop them. Soak the chopped fresh cherries in cold water for a few minutes to form a juice to reserve. If using a 20-ounce jar of cherries, drain the juice, reserve it in a separate bowl, and set aside. This will be used for the cherry glaze recipe. Chop the canned cherries.

Lightly coat the chopped cherries in flour to prevent them from sinking to the bottom of the bread pan during the baking process. Fold in the flour-covered chopped cherries in the bread batter and combine well.

Baking the Cherry Bread

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Pour the cherry bread batter into a well-greased bread loaf pan and bake for one hour. It will be done once it is able to pass the toothpick test. I use a butter knife to check if the bread is done. It leaves a small slit that is barely noticeable.

When the loaf is done baking, pull it out and place it on a cooling rack. Once the pan is completely cool, take a butter knife and run it around the edges to loosen the bread from the pan. Never try to remove bread from a hot or warm pan because the bread will tear and rip out the sides and bottom. Tip the pan over and allow the bread to carefully fall out. Place the bread on a cutting board for the next step.

Making the Cherry Glaze

For the Cherry Glaze: Whisk together the powdered sugar, reserved cherry juice, and melted butter until a smooth consistency and set aside. This cherry glaze will harden on the bread in the fridge.

Just adore this perfectly pink, sweet, and smooth cherry glaze! This is so delicious smothered over top of the cherry bread!

This has far been my favorite glaze I have ever made! I think the next time I decide to make this, which will be soon since I have a cherry tree, I will add cream cheese to this recipe!

Yep! Having this loaf topped with perfectly pink cherry cream cheese frosting is definitely my next bread dessert to make!

Once the bread is cool, drizzle the pink cherry glaze over top of the cherry bread. You can easily do this with a pour cup or a spoon. It does not matter how you do it since it will turn out perfectly every time!

I guess you could even use a ladle and just ladle the glaze over top!

After the cherry glaze has been drizzled on the cherry bread, place it in the fridge for thirty minutes to cool and allow the glaze to harden. I placed the whole thing on the cutting board and placed it in my fridge.

Slicing the Cherry Bread

cherry bread

When the glaze is hardened and the bread is cool, it is time to slice this delicious loaf!

Using a serrated bread knife, begin slicing the loaf into individual slices. You can serve this immediately or store it in an airtight container or bread bags. For me, I placed mine in a bread bag after all of the slices were made and popped it in the fridge to keep it fresh.

breakfast

I served this to my family for breakfast the following morning. I warmed up a couple of slices on a plate in the microwave and added butter and drizzled maple syrup over top. Everyone got a couple of slices and it was devoured quickly!

I just bet this bread would make awesome French toast! Could you imagine serving cherry-glazed French toast? I can’t contain myself, the possibilities of serving this in different ways are forming in my head and it just makes me happy to know I own a cherry tree!

Storing Your Bread

storing bread

As mentioned previously, you can store this bread in a bread bag or an airtight container and leave it in the fridge. I mean, you can have a slice whenever you want, but it should stay kept in there until it is devoured!

This bread should stay fresh for up to one week in the fridge if it is able to even last that long. It is good cold straight from the fridge or even better popped in the microwave for just a few seconds to get it back to that fresh just-out-of-the-oven warm taste!
