Health Benefits of Garlic Detox
Garlic contains organo-sulfur compounds for detoxifying the body and getting rid of toxins that do not belong in our body. We are exposed to toxins daily and everywhere from pesticides and chemicals used in our foods, radiation from nuclear plants, chemicals in our personal care products and household cleaners. Consuming raw garlic is a great way to detoxify our bodies to help our bodies cleanse out these harmful toxins to promote our health.
Health Benefits of Fermented Garlic Honey
Raw garlic and honey both pack powerful medicinal health benefits and they are even more powerful when they are infused and fermented together.
Having this home remedy on hand during the winter months can help treat colds, coughs, infections, and sore throats.
If the thought of stomaching a spoonful of raw garlic and honey bothers you, add them to recipes to enjoy at dinner in glazes, marinades, salad dressings, and sauces.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of fresh, whole crushed garlic cloves.
- 1 cup of raw honey.
Instructions:
- Peel fresh garlic cloves and crush or mince.
- Add minced garlic to pint-sized mason jar.
- Add raw, unpasturized honey and completely immerge the garlic, leaving one inch of head space.
- Cover with the lid loosely on and store in a cool dark place. Mine is stored in the basement pantry.
- After two days, tighten the lid and shake every few days and flip upside down.
- After two more days, flip the jar again and loosen the lid. Repeat this for up to a month of fermentation.
- Tiny bubbles will start to appear after a few days, which is normal.
Health Benefits of Garlic Lemonade
To help get young kids to enjoy the health benefits of garlic, making a garlic lemonade may be the best option. Adding lemon, garlic, and a natural sweetener like honey is very nutritional and packs antiviral components that help kids fight off seasonal colds. The lemon and honey additions help kids think they are just enjoying a tasty beverage.
Ingredients:
- 4 to 8 cloves garlic, minced.
- 1 lemon, sliced.
- 1/4 cup honey.
Instructions:
- Place minced garlic and lemon in quart-sized mason jar.
- Add boiled water and honey to jar and stir well.
- Cover and let steep until cool, typically 30 minutes.
- Savory variation: Substitute bone broth or veggie stock for boiled water and honey.
- Spicy variation: Add a few slices of fresh ginger, a cinnamon stick, a few cardamon pods, and a pinch of crushed red pepper.
Minced Garlic Cubes
I am using a silicone mini muffin pan that just makes the perfect sizes for my minced garlic cubes and they pop out very quickly and easily. I place them in a freezer bag once they are in their frozen state. These minced garlic cubes are perfect to toss in the frying pan or to the home remedies described in this post for health benefits.
Peel the garlic and wash the cloves. Mince all cloves in a food processor. Spoon minced garlic in each silicone mini muffin pan or ice cube tray. For an optional benefit, I like to drop a few drops of olive oil (or any kind of food oil you like) to the top of each cube of minced garlic and allow it to soak through. This gives it a great and easy way to toss the frozen cube right into a hot frying pan, oil, garlic, and all.
If you plan to use them for the remedies discussed in this post, just omit adding the oil.
