Total Time 12 hours hrs 40 minutes mins
Servings 12 sourdough breadsticks
1 large mixing bow
1 mixing utensil
1 or 2 baking sheets
For the Dough
- ½ cup sourdough starter
- 1 cup water
- 3 tbsp melted butter
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 ½ tsp salt
- 2 ¾ cukps all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp baking powder
For the Topping
- 4 tbsp melted butter
- 4 tbsp parmesan cheese
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- 2 tsp dried herbs
Combining the Ingredients
Combine your sourdough starter, water, butter, sugar, salt, flour, and baking powder, and give it a thorough mix. You want all the ingredients to come together into a sticky, shaggy mess.
Dust your hands with flour, turn that dough out onto a clean work surface, and start kneading.
Cover the dough and let it bulk ferment for up to 8 to 12 hours or overnight.
Dividing and Shaping the Dough into Breadstick Form
Start by dividing your dough into portions, depending on how thick you want your breadsticks.
Then, take each piece and gently roll it out into a long, thin strip.
Preheating the Oven and Preparing the Baking Sheet
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
Prepare a baking pan by greasing it and placing your breadsticks evenly spaced out.
Bake for approximately 15-20 minutes. Keep an eye on them as they bake, adjusting the time accordingly.
You want the breadsticks to turn golden brown with a slight crunch on the outside and a soft, chewy texture on the inside.
For the Topping
In a small bowl, combine garlic, herbs, butter, salt, and parmesan until well combined.
Once the breadsticks come out of the oven, brush them with the mixed ingredients.
