1 sharp knife for chopping onions and garlic.

- 1 box Lasagna noodles (preferably no-boil noodles for convenience).
- 1 jar tomato sauce.
- 1 pint or 2 cups ground beef or meat of choice.
- 1 chopped onion.
- 1 clove minced garlic.
- 1 pint or 2 cups ricotta cheese.
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese.
- 1 cup parmesan cheese.
- 2 large eggs.
- 1 tsp salt.
- ½ tsp ground pepper.
- 1 sprig fresh basil leaves for garnishing.
Making Homemade Tomato Sauce
If you’re using store-bought tomato sauce, you can skip this step and proceed to the next section. However, if you’re feeling adventurous and want to make your own sauce, here’s a simple recipe:
In the Dutch oven over medium heat, add a drizzle of olive oil and sauté the finely chopped onions and minced garlic until they become fragrant and translucent.
Add your ground meat of choice and cook until nicely browned.
Pour in the tomato sauce and season with salt and pepper to taste.
Allow the sauce to simmer for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
Making the Cheese Filling
Creating the Base Layer with Noodles and Sauce
Now comes the fun part – layering your lasagna! In the Dutch oven, spread a layer of tomato sauce at the bottom to prevent the noodles from sticking.
Place a layer of lasagna noodles on top of the sauce, slightly overlapping each other.
Add another layer of tomato sauce on top of the noodles.
Adding Cheese and Filling Layers
Next, dollop spoonfuls of the cheese filling evenly over the sauce layer.
Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and more grated Parmesan cheese on top of the cheese filling.
Repeat these layers until you’ve used up all the sauce and cheese filling ingredients, topping with mozzarella.
Cooking the Lasagna
Cover the Dutch oven with its lid and bake at 350 degrees for about 40-45 minutes until a fork can easily poke through all of the layers. If you prefer a crispy top, you can also finish it in the oven for a few minutes under the broiler setting.
Once cooked, remove the Dutch oven from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
Sprinkle torn fresh basil leaves on top for a burst of freshness and aroma.
